George Van der Veken
Geboren na den oorlog in 1948 in Turnhout en er nog steeds wonende in het gehucht Zevendonk.
Mijn hobby’s zijn genieten van de natuur, reizen, muziek en het verzamelen van alles wat vooral te maken heeft met The Beatles en Paul McCartney en ben echt die-hard fan sedert 1963.
Van jongsaf aan evenwel steeds ook geïnteresseerd geweest in vogels, doch nooit er echt bewust intensief mee bezig geweest.
Professioneel en privé was het ook steeds druk-druk en heb er derhalve nooit echt veel resterende tijd voor gehad.
Fotografie idem dito. Steeds veel foto’s gemaakt van allerlei onderwerpen, niet speciaal vogels, en dit ook sedert zeer prille leeftijd. In de jaren ’70-‘80 (analoog tijdperk) ben ik bij een fotoclub actief geweest.
De combinatie van de twee kreeg pas serieus een boost nadat ik op pensioen was en na het volgen van enkele interessante vogelcursussen bij Natuurpunt.
Uiteraard heb ik tijdens deze vogelcursussen meer kennis opgedaan over de leefwereld van de vogels en heeft dit er toe bijgedragen om betere opnamen te kunnen maken.
Verwacht van mij echter niet altijd professionele opnamen. Ik vind het gewoon heel leuk om vogels te observeren en te fotograferen en probeer dit zo goed mogelijk te doen.
Veel kijkplezier en desgewenst kunt ge in mijn gastenboek iets bijschrijven.

'BIRDWORLD OF GEORGE'!
George Van der Veken’ is my name.
I was born after the war in Turnhout, Belgium, in 1948, and I am still living there in the small hamlet of Zevendonk.
My hobbies are experiencing the beautiful nature, travelling a lot, music and gathering everything that has something to do with the Beatles and Paul McCartney and I'm really a die-hard fan since 1963.
However, from an early age, I was interested in birds, but never really been consciously involved.
Professionally and privately, it was always very busy and I never had a lot of time left.
Photography idem dito. From a very early age I always took many pictures of all kind of subjects, not especially birds. In the 1970-80's (the analogue era) I was active at a photo club.
The combination of the two got a serious boost after I retired and after taking some interesting birdcourses at 'Natuurpunt'.
Of course, during these birdcourses, I gained more knowledge about the birds' living environment and this helped me to make better shots.
However, do not expect all too professional pictures. I just like watching and photographing birds and try to do this as best I could.
